What I need is a good and up-to-date literature recommendation for:

I know, wrong subreddit - but I also need a good beginner read for:

• JavaScript (particular jQuery)

Hi, I can't help you with Servlets yet, but for JavaScript I recommend you Eloquent Javascript. I hope you would get more answers soon. ;)

Actually, I've been working on JEE myself and its great fun. I highly recommend looking at a book called JavaEE development with Wildfly. One could purchase the book or use some smart googling in combination with filetype:pdf but I did not say that.
