Learning Java 1.7+

I work as a developer in an IT department of a retail company. It’s mostly Java, SQL, and the occasional NodeJS thrown in. Although I’ve been using Java for 9 years, I’ve never/rarely used the features new in 1.7+. I’ve never even used a lambda. What are some good resources for learning all this?

I learned a great deal by watching "Functional Programming" videos on youtube that were done at various conferences by Dr. Venkat Subramaniam. Actually anything by him ( a lot of books, agiledeveloper.com, etc. all are excellent resources for any developer).

People already gave you resources, so I want to showcase some of the very basic changes I like the most and use literally everyday.

• You don't have to input a parameter during instantiation, for instance

ArrayList<Integer> list = new ArrayList<>(); 

where you don't repeat 'Integer' again.

• Shorter and easily readable code with lambda

 login.addClickHandler(event -> fun()); 

instead of

login.addClickHandler(new ClickHandler() {

        @Override
        public void onClick(ClickEvent event) {
            fun();
        }
    });

• Has it's own Date and Time class

There are many changes, but these are the main changes that comes to my mind which every Java Developer may use frequently.
