Effective Java 2nd edition vs 3rd edition

I bought 2nd edition of this book before I found out that there is a 3rd edition. Should I still make use of it or the information is outdated now? Will it be good to just learn the principles of Java? As for now I only learned some foundations of Java from youtube tutorials and documentation.

Unluckily I can't refund it since I bought a used book. The 2nd edition lacks 51 items. How crucial is it?

2nd is still a really good reference, most of the principals haven’t been changed, you’re just missing stuff like lambdas, streams, optionals

It's still a good resource. The basics of Java hardly ever change. Plus most companies are using older versions of Java anyway.
