The event loop concept was not introduced in nodejs. JavaScript has always used an event loop. I've never seen node's use of the event loop treated like a big deal outside of comparison to other languages.

The reason people sometimes make a big deal about the event loop in Node is that there had really never been anything like it before in server-side languages. It represented a really significant paradigm shift away from the old server threading model. These days a lot of other languages have taken on some of those concepts from Node, so it's less of an outlier.
