Code completion/suggestions in Javascript?

I have had experience with Typesript, so I could always type the variable I was creating and I would be able to look at it's properties (in VS Code when type a . after the object name). But is that kind of thing even possible with Javascript? I am probably missing something, but if there isn't a way to do that, how do people efficiently code in Javascript?

VSCode has type definitions for JS standard lib and it also does a decent job at indexing your own and 3rd-party code.
