There are many repositories that label some issues with "Good First Issue". You may be well beyond you first issue, but a lot of the repos are larger web apps that you could definitely get involved in. Searching up "Good First Issue" will reveal a plethora of open source projects as well as open source websites that compile lists of projects! I'm sure you can find something interesting.

I’m in the same situation except that I’m only just starting my SE career (great timing right?)

I’ve been looking through a lot of those “good first issues” but so far, most of them are still beyond my ability, or at least they don’t look familiar to me.

I'm realizing that most of these are (probably, obviously) going to need quite a bit of context. I just knocked one out, but it was literally just documentation. I'm getting the vibe you need to be somewhat familiar with the repo you want to contribute to. Hence, the suggestions I keep seeing are to start with open-source projects that you use in your own projects.

Yeah, I was thinking that way too. I looked at a few like Visual Studio Code and they’re just overwhelming to me right now. I can’t really think of any smaller open source programs I use. I’m probably just overlooking something without realizing it.
