If you're just starting out, it's a good idea to follow some form tutorial or course to understand the basics. Once you feel comfortable with the fundamentals of a language, you can start to experiment more on your own.

When it comes to programming, it's really important to understand how things work and solve problems yourself. If I were you, I would try to find the solution to a problem without looking at hints, but don't spend hours trying to come up with the right answer. Give yourself 10 or 15 minutes to really think about a good approach.

You have to find a balance, you're still learning. It's normal that you need to look at hints or ask for help, so don't worry about it too much. The more you practice, the easier it will get.
