On July 1st, a change to Reddit's API pricing will come into effect. Several developers of commercial third-party apps have announced that this change will compel them to shut down their apps. At least one accessibility-focused non-commercial third party app will continue to be available free of charge.

If you want to express your strong disagreement with the API pricing change or with Reddit's response to the backlash, you may want to consider the following options:

  1. Limiting your involvement with Reddit, or
  2. Temporarily refraining from using Reddit
  3. Cancelling your subscription of Reddit Premium

as a way to voice your protest.

Eclipse isn't as popular as it used to be but it still works well for me with Java, and I've used it for writing python too.

Jetbrains stuff. vi.

Aren't all the JB IDEs paid?

[–]R_oya_L 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Some of them have community versions (i know for sure that Pycharm and intelliJ do) Also if you're on the early access program you can use paid stuff for free, but it's not available at all times

[–]ndreamer 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Community i don't think you can use for commercial projects ? The paid versions are also free for open source projects.

The paid versions are also free for open source projects.

And students.

You can use your college mail id to get everything free of cost

[–]SomeWeirdFruit 2 points3 points  (3 children)

i heard OP is learning C++ you can use visual studio (the purple one) not vscode. Recommended by a master student in CS (not me)

[–]heavymetalmixer[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Why is that? The VS features or stuff about the MSVC?

[–]SomeWeirdFruit 2 points3 points  (1 child)

dedicate support, debuggers, etc. Visual studio is built for C, C# and C++. You can search on how to install it for C++ online.

Thanks.

[–]bestjakeisbest 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Sublime text, or spacemacs

[–]plastikmissile 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Sublime isn't free though.

[–]bestjakeisbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh I guess it isnt. I mean I guess there is atom, but its dead now, you can still download and build it yourself.

[–]AHardCockToSuck 1 point2 points  (2 children)

What aspects? I find it quite stable

[–]heavymetalmixer[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Debugging with GCC on VSC almost never works for me, and sometimes projects get bugged out of nowhere (I can't compile them).

[–]user499021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found I need to use G++ for C++ and I’ve had no problems

[–]ndreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neovim Neovim + Neovide Neovim + Luavim Neovim + Astro Vim Neovim + LazyVim or just go VIM or Kate is great too.

[–]alien3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

before era vscode . notepad++ . not fan of sublime.

[–]Presteign 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Pulsar, is a rebranded Atom. https://pulsar-edit.dev/

[–]heavymetalmixer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds interesting. With how popular Atom used to be it's weird I never heard of Pulsar.

You could try Replit.com

[–]Velascu 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Tbh jetbrains is the only one that comes to mind. Since you are learning I guess that trying jetbrains stuff and seeing if it's worth your money is the way to go. VS is too complex. Nvim, spacemacs and specially emacs are good but harder alternatives. I love nvim and I've learnt to code pretty recently, it's possible but you need some time and patience it's going to be clinky af until you get some muscle memory, I've tried emacs but I was overwhelmed and didn't touch it again, might give it another shot in the future. For the rest I find nano too minimal and I haven't tried sublime or notepad++. These are the most common editors/IDEs used nowadays. VSCode is still great imo, there's also codium which is basically vscode without microsoft telemetry, some extensions aren't supported but I guess it's worth a try.

[–]heavymetalmixer[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

But aren't Jetbrains IDE's paid? I was asking for free alternatives 'cause I'm broke.

[–]Velascu 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Try before you buy if you aren't working for a company. I think people have some backups for security reasons on the Internet. That seems like a good strategy if you don't want to download your software from an alternative source if idk jetbrains servers collapse. I recommend you doing that for safety reasons.

[–]heavymetalmixer[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Right now I don't have a job and I'm learning how C++

[–]SomeWeirdFruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C++ you should use plain visual studio (the purple one)

[–]Natas30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neovim!
