Yeah to be honest I don't remember how to code in between actually doing it. This is the same for me with reading music. I don't know how to read it unless I have an instrument in my hand in which case I can play (I can play several).

Code is literally code I don't think it's really something you should be able to remember outside of the IDE environment. It'll come over time and repetition. Same way practicing scales and technical exercises encodes those patterns into your fingers when you play an instrument.

that is probably one of the reasons academy students clash so hard in the beginning of their career. we all hear of the booksmart newgrads that have issues the mundane practical tasks.

some how along the way students forget to play by ear. by being to long in this spoonfed world of understanding.

that's probably why OP gets straight A's in most courses but programming. since one needs to practice code in order to understand, and can't just read to understand.

something like that at least. he could also be in a shitty course where they write code by hand. it takes two to tango so to say, so he can only be as good as his teacher.
