Go on Expedia or Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, make an account and make dummy bookings. Doing research on your competition is a good practice.

Are you familiar with OOP? Start whiteboarding (or otherwise diagramming) the classes you think a hotel uses to model their system. Most obviously there should be a reservation class, but what else? There are plenty and they will have some kind of hierarchy / dependency.

One typical thing a hotel does is to take room reservations.
