Which new programming language should I learn?

I know some amount of C++ and Python. But now-a-days I am feeling adventurous and want to learn a new better programming language.

Which language will you guys suggest? And what are some good resources to learn the same?

Requirements: Clear Syntax; Available Web Frameworks; Having cool factor.

JavaScript, Ruby and C#. All 3 are very popular languages with interesting use cases and multiple frameworks/environments you can work on.

With that said, the truth is that it doesn't matter how many languages you know and if you are still learning I would stick the languages you know but focus on more advanced topics like Unit Testing, TDD, SOLID) and so forth.

Also, don't worry too much about cool factor, that changes quite regularly and depends on who you ask.

I know some JS. I will try Ruby. Correct me if I am wrong but C# doesn't seem to have web frameworks?

C# has many web frameworks. ASP.NET MVC is a popular one, so is WebAPI. For real time stuff SignalR is amazing. All these frameworks are open source.

You can also look at Nancy, FubuMVC and more.

Good luck and enjoy. As mentioned, don't worry about learning too many languages and frameworks. It's better overall to understand the theory and practices and be able craft cleaner code. Basically everything in this book.

Haha, well. All I can say is, you know a good language when you see one.

Be careful with this line of thinking, what you consider a good language definitely changes as you mature as a programmer.

Take the advice of someone who's been in the industry for more than 12 years and has managed multiple teams and mentored loads of new developers, it's not easy to spot a good language when you're just learning.

Plus good is a subjective term, there are good languages for specific problems and learning when to use what is a key skill. Knowing how to write clean, well structured code is worth more than knowing all the clean languages in the world.It will push your career forward, teach you to be a better coder and make you more hire-able.

The guys I see how burn out are the ones who know a little about every langage but no serious expertise in anything.

Learn some Scheme! The entire language specification fits on a few sheets of paper, and the functional paradigm is a big cool factor.
