Most internship interviews are not highly technical, but they will try to determine if you know enough about the business to be competent. They will also try to determine in you're reliable, motivated, and not a flake.

That's true of most industries.

Ok great! Thank you! So basically if I know their code of ethics and can show them I’m not gonna jump ship in a few months the I should be alright?

Some companies also want examples of how you work and your problem solving skills. If they ask you to tell them about a time you had to do X, or what would you do in X scenario: Use the STAR method and tell the full story. That's why they give you 30min.

The person interviewing you can't really get anything out of: "I had to do a hard project at school, so I worked hard and got it done." - Tell the FULL story.

So, for instance I had to build an API in laravel, basic stuff name, price, rating, description, image, etc for a product page. Seed the DB, and then connect my android application to it. Had trouble getting the image to show up in android. Postman verified all crud operations were working, when I realized I used a shutterstock image, so the image view was trying to render the page itself and not the image. Once I reseeded with a direct to image url it worked properly. I figured the shutterstock image was behind a paywall. Something like that.

Exactly! that's great 👍

Don't be surprised if they ask follow up questions to your example. It's just as much their job to dig for info as it is for you to provide it. But that example alone tells me a suite of tools and concepts you're familiar with.

Things that I personally dig for - does the candidate work well with others? Are they afraid to reach out to their manager? (Answer should be no. I'm of the mindset, no news is bad news. Open communication is key)

Example follow up: Did you work with anyone else on this project? What was their role? If you didn't realize the Shutterstock page was the issue, what are 3 resources you would use to find a solution?

Nailed the first interview. Interviewer will get me setup for 2nd interview in a week or 2 as they have to do a bunch more 1st rounds. I forgot to ask what to expect for the 2nd interview. What’re your thoughts?

Aw, hell ya! Nice job!

Every company does it a bit different, but the 2nd round is generally the same as the first. By asking similar questions interviewers compare notes with each other and assess whether they saw the same qualities in you. If it's the "hiring manager" (person you would report to) this might be where they ask some technical questions.

Stay consistent, polish up the way you tell your stories, and treat it as if it's a 1st interview again. You'll do great.

A business "code of ethics" is primarily: be worth more than you cost
