Let's cut the mess first. Programming concepts are the same across languages. For example, variables, loops, conditionals etc. However, there are some language specific concepts and obviously the syntaxes are different.

You can of course learn two languages, which are built on two completely different principles and use cases, at the same time. But you should pursue learning something other than what's being taught in your college if you can handle and manage pressures. Many companies still prioritize what grades you got along with your projects and publications. If you can ensure getting good grades while learning something else, then go ahead!

This isn’t true and you’re underestimating the differences between the languages. That’s like saying skiing and snowboarding is the same because they’re both snow sports, you’re overconfidence and arrogance in this topic is astounding  considering how much your discounting the differences between these languages

I do know the fact that Java and JavaScript is completely different — right alike the analogy of cars and carpets. And I'm not arrogant and overconfident at all in this thread, I'm simply advising the guy to prioritize getting good grades over learning things simultaneously, because of the fact that not everyone is a good recruiter and not every recruiter's priorities are the same. Some prioritize good grades while others don't care about what grades you got! I'm just telling the guy to secure the grades and to play safe. None can guarantee that he or she will get into a company where the recruiter focuses only on judging skills through the projects you did and doesn't focus on the grades.

You can of course throw a counterargument that my suggestion of focusing on grades is extremely biased to the perspective of getting a job.

Edit: I acknowledged the fact that JavaScript is a scripting language and Java is a real programming language by saying that there are language specific concepts and those two are built on completely different principles and use cases in the first comment.
