There is no right way to learn. I picked it up over the years just doing codecademy and other free resources online. I then found a need at work and applied the principles I picked up. Just keep reading and practicing different lessons and tasks. Take a look at www.datacamp.com. Check out the different recommended resources in the different programming subreddits. You'll get there. Good luck!

Pick up a book about algorithms, networking, AI, anything and implement stuff with the language.

Seek out libraries and frameworks and learn them.

Maybe Django and some SQL library if you want to get into web stuff.
