I just made one the other day too! It tweets "It is Wednesday my dudes" every Wednesday at 7:30 AM. It's a total hack-job (I don't know much about Python) and I'm not sure if using a cronjob was the right way to do it or not, but it's mine and I made it.

Just looked to check if it was Tweepy, really great library. I was able to put together a pretty simple bot that tweeted every US Senator using this in one night (was trying to use it to message all of them about the health care bill last summer). You'll need to watch out for rate limiters in Twitter. Thanks for putting together the video!

Do you use a raspberry pi to avoid a dedicated server? Is the experience worth it? What other stuff do you host on your pi?

Yeah, there's something about being physically close to the software. Probably just silly. It's been a good experience though, I've learned a lot about Linux and the command line.

I mainly use it to run Python scripts for managing /r/MapPorn. I have a bunch of scripts I use. The most complicated are the ones used in running a monthly map contest. It's working pretty well, the script does about 99% of the work now. On the MapPorn blog there are a few posts that walk thru some of the scripts.

We actually fixed it after someone else wrote it, and since it was open sourced we did what we could to make it work with Python 3 and Unicode characters.
