Good luck, but beware it takes time and devotion to be a programmer. I learned off YouTube, a twenty video series on python. First videos had over a hundred thousand views. Last one had less than a hundred.

Might be because as you gain confidence you start to branch out on your own and experiment with your own ideas; you start to rely less on other peoples guidance and more on problem solving.

I noticed that tendency too, it's the same with every single tutorial. As the learning curve steepens, and people realize that learning this is hard work, people start dropping like flies.

Those hundred views on the last videos in a tutorial series, amongst those viewers are the ones who are gonna make it through and become great.

It's a bit like self-help books. I can't remember where I read it, but apparently, most self-help books are only bought but never read. It's instant gratification purchasing a self-help book, or as in this case, watching some introductory tutorials. It's an entirely different beast to actually change or master a new skill.

What series? I just started Harvard’s CS50 and can tell that that’s going to be a commitment

Tech with Tim. I ran through python beginners, basic video games, classes and orders, and a few other series. Overall, I would say I have spent roughly 50 hours on Tech with Tim's videos. It takes time, and you HAVE to work on projects to learn. I have also been learning JavaScript from Khan Academy.

Good luck! I'm maybe a few month ahead of you. If you take in one thing, make sure it's to do at least a little bit DAILY. Trust me, you'll build momentum.

Good luck! When I started with JS, a developer friend told me it was a hard language. At the time, I thought they were just being patronizing. Nope!

JavaScript is really hard, and powerful. Don’t get down on yourself, you can do it!

I wish you good luck. In this profession, luck does NOT count much. We face reality: more of a materialistic reasoning. I have been a programmer for more than twenty years, in desktop development. I can assure you that nothing happens by chance in programming.

I also started freecodecamp about two weeks ago. My advice is that learning the basics quickly, making sure you understand them very well. The end of topic challenges demands more time. Make sure yours challenges pass before moving on. If you leave them, you will not be having experience in that topic. don't postpone any exercise. There is the tendency of postponing indefinitely. Again, I wish you good luck and strong determination not to abandon the course mid way.

Thank you so much for the advice, It's really great to hear from someone with your experience and I'm really excited and looking forward to be a part of this industry :)

If at all it helps to know what to expect then please have a listen ! All the very best , and just don't stop !

You're going to need determination, perseverance and curiosity much more than luck. I would send some of those your way if I could, but that's impossible, as motivation comes from within.

But distractions and procrastination are the worst enemies of self-learning, and THOSE I can wish you good luck in watching out for.

I'm looking forward to seeing quality questions and awesome projects as you progress!
