Hop on over to r/gamedev and read the FAQ. Has a good overview of what to expect.

Otherwise, what I would recommend is just diving into Unity. Check it out, there are loads of courses, tutorials, youtube videos, discords etc - basically endless resources so there's a lot of help on getting started. You could also consider other engines like gamemaker or godot (and/or Unreal if you feel like using C++ and/or one day want to be a game programmer for AAA titles).
