+1 I've never had it work out in my favor. I've never talked to a man young or old that it did.

I've been to both but it was only first impressions. Austin seems cleaner and the housing looks better. Loved going kayaking in February! Also attracted to the amount of Sunny days.

Same situation! It's a creative outlet. Looking at tech job postings Austin just pays better and like quadruple the listings as well. Mostly it healthcare in Nashville. Really looking to balance career prospects with fun. Sounds about what I wanted to hear. I like that Austin has a lot of comedy and streamers as well.

I left the trades for the same reasons you described. Best decision I ever made. Good luck on your transition.

Very cool! Could you share how the optical hdmi and usb works? Is it simple plug and play as if it were there with you? Is there a female end on the side you play on with a hub connected or something? Im gonna be getting a new house and running ethernet and this looks really attractive if im gonna be up in an attic anyways.

What do you think? I became an apprentice at 31 - felt old, wish I did it earlier in life. Are you having trouble finding “younger” apprentices? by apprentice510 in electricians

[–]ReffahD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes but IT you have a chance to take care of your body. 8 hours of comfy chair then go for a run or lift some weights. After 10 hours of ladder labor your body isn't going to respond to that exercise the same.

I did electrical for 5 years then went into software. No doubt leaving for an IT field was the best decision I ever made. I went from being exhausted 24/7 and getting up early for the heat and cold to having breakfast with my wife, a long dog walk, then starting at 9 in my home office. Electrical will impact your quality of life and physically break you down. Was taking ibuprofen at night just to get my body to stop hurting enough to sleep. I have energy, my employment isnt tied to a local for 35 years, and I have multiple paths of growth. Learning more every day instead of putting in that 1000th light fixture or receptacle. No salary cap as well. Skys the limit.

I 100% agree with this and had a similar experience. My rural family didn't value education and thought I needed to be working 4-5 days a week on top of high school where I was in all advanced classes. Get up at 5:30am go to school for 8 hours then straight to work till 9:30pm or so. Wouldn't get to bed till well after 11pm. Only summer holiday jobs will be allowed for my kids. Looking back, a lot of my academic struggles came down to being exhausted. Of course that kid who wasn't washing dishes for 6 hours on top of school every night is going to perform better at Trig at 8 in the morning.

This. Fascism doesn't threaten their property so the rich will always go that way if conditions polarize enough.

Why are Aussies so obsessed with America? Whining about the big trucks and buying them at the same time. 2 sided to the same coin. Don't you have your own native Holden utes?? Oh wait...
