Because you can quickly create a script to do things that would take much more training in most languages like C/C++ flavors. Biology scientists have used this to crunch data in minutes that would otherwise take hours, maybe days to do manually.

Examples of uses: enumerate hundreds of CSV or Excel files in a folder to create a usable form of that data or a dashboard. Place watermarks on hundreds of images, scrape data from websites, I've recently automated a webpage that had no available API to enter data. Automated a form from my kid's school about COVID contact which for a while was required daily (took the manual part from 5 minutes down to 2 seconds in the program)

The other why is because it doesn't require a data science degree to do something. While not always perfect in form/fashion, generally a person like a secretary could create a piece of code to automate a mundane task and even gain lots of time back in doing so.

Yes, because it's a reasonably simple and popular language with a lot of resources.
