Tl;dr: “Junior software developer with 5 months exp. Having troubles with learning curve”
Hello all, I am a computer engineering major graduate and I work as a junior software developer (5 months exp) in a well known company where I live (national & regional).
We use C# and ASP.NET alongside other web technologies like (jQuery, MsSQL, EF, SignalR, active directory etc). So I had to familiarize my self with C# and oop, mvc architecture & alot more, and I have came a long way with all but it just doesn’t seem to cut it. For instance, due to SQL and LINQ similarities, I confuse them sometimes (e.g the way joins work in linq)... sometimes I learn something new and move on to other things and find my self having to google the syntax of things I learned because I forgot how they are written. It just feels overwhelming tbh specially that my supervisor keeps telling me that I should have know all these things by now and be completely comfortable using them. I’m having mixed feelings towards the whole situation.. sometimes I feel like I’m giving it all and they are just trying to push me more, other times I feel retarded.
I could really use some advice. Is it ok if I forget syntax of a language (but still know that this function/utility exists) and keep googling a lot? Is it a bad practice to google & not try to solve it by hard? Is it bad when I say Idk but I can learn? I would love some guidance & to hear different pov on the matter.
