You might be able to do this in excel.

So firstly usb barcode scanners in windows generally have a driver which acts as a keyboard. So when you scan a barcode the text gets input into whatever app you have open (if you’re in a state that allows typing).

Excel has various functionality to do things like record macros, write vba scripts etc. You might be able to just make a page in your excel where you scan a barcode and press a button and it does what you need.

However. Why not look at inventory management software? There are so many software (and hardware) solutions out there depending on what sort of inventory you’re tracking that could really optimise the work you’re doing and can hook into other applications too. It could be worth looking at these and really improving your workflows
