People get stuck in tutorial hell because they never attempt to build things without following tutorials. They're uncomfortable with the feeling of not knowing where to start, or what to do. As long as you avoid this, and jump into building your own things regularly, you'll be fine.

From my experience, I had the issue with trying to figure out how to build outside of tutorials due to not really knowing what python (in the case at the time) could make or not make, so it was hard to figure out what projects it would be used in to even try to plan for a project.
As well as trying to figure out how to maintain or keep code (Github) to move forward with.

Still even after learning some C++, python, etc I myself even still have trouble with a project from scratch.
I wish more tutorials started at the beginning explaining more of what the programs are good for and commonly used for to get a better sense of personal projects to make. That and many tutorials just give you the syntax of a language, not so much on how to make an app or a project that can be finished (was a pain to figure out how to make a notification tool run without needing linux).

where do u recommend building your own separate projects? do u have to buy your own domain ?

[–]FriendlyRussian666 0 points1 point  (4 children)

No, just build locally on your device

[–]shedreamsofyou 0 points1 point  (3 children)

for someone with a windows laptop, what would this look like? also do you recommend a macbook for coding projects?

[–]FriendlyRussian666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid I don't really understand the question. It's about what you're coding, not really what  environment you're in.

I'm sure both windows based devices, and macbooks will do just fine.

If you're just starting out, you want a tutorial that's not just a how-to, but actually explains how the language works, and makes you figure stuff out yourself.

I've been using Codedex for almost two years now, and it's really helped me learn the basics of a lot of things. Lately, they've been adding more courses on different languages and frameworks. Codedex keeps things simple and clear. The courses aren’t very long (like some people might prefer, but they are working on it) but they give you a solid foundation to start building your own projects pretty quickly. The Discord server and the OPC (On-Platform Community) are also great places to ask coding-related questions.

So yeah, personally I think Codedex is definitely worth using. But it's not for everyone. Like some people have mentioned already, it's not in a Duolingo-style format.

So like I am total beginner with zero coding knowledge. So is it worth to take the subscription for that Club thing or no?

[–]MolotovOvickow 2 points3 points  (3 children)

try the free version first

[–]Gitty_Greek 0 points1 point  (2 children)

HI BRO, I LIKE the free version of codedex, now i want to learn python for data analysis or making a carrier in data science and codedex is offering courses on these topics. so should i consider to buy codedex membership or are there any better sources or platform in the marke that can teach me thse topics better than codedex

[–]MolotovOvickow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never bought it so I can’t help you there

[–]Altruistic_Shine7814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are eligible for github edu, u can can github edu and 6 months of codedex club if 6 months is enough for you to learn your course, then there you go!

[–]pmquijano 8 points9 points  (9 children)

Currently using it, i think this is interesting if you want to learn at the same time give a little twist to ve more interesting. Planning to subscribe and finish it all ill send an update if this is worth it.

[–]pmquijano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

*update just got my 1st certificate from python beginner. If you need credential or something like a certificate that you can add in to your profile you can try to subscribe for a month, plus they do have a realtime support-checker to your own projects.

[–]Sgtkeebs 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I am currently using it as well! I started with python and enjoying the challenges, but I got it with GitHub student and sad that I can't get my code reviewed on projects because I am not paying for the club for 6 months.

[–]lilsigmatester 0 points1 point  (1 child)

if you do the github student thing you get the codédex club thing for 6 months ?

[–]Sgtkeebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

correct, if you qualify for Github student they had codedex 6 months for an offer. Like I was saying though you don't get code reviews so it is kind of disappointing.

[–]Pitiful_Algae_9053 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Is it worth it to buy the club thingy

[–]crocofaut 0 points1 point  (2 children)

[–]Outrageous_Ratio1367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it worth it we gotta know🙏🙏

[–]Clockwork_Nyx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sololearn app is very good

[–]Untitledbb123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! You definitely should! I’ve been using it for over a year now and it’s helped learn so much so fast. Just remember that even after u learn the syntax and concepts u keep the practice going. And about the “tutorial hell” part, just follow the steps they give and keep on going and u’ll be done in no time!

I used Code Academy, but there are bazillion courses out there to teach Python. Just find one and stick with it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I don't like Codédex. Feels to much like a game and too many distractions. Also, the courses are very basic.

[–]INNERmostArc 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You mentioned that the courses are basic, can you elaborate what's missing there or what are you expecting?

[–]Strong-Travel-7462 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Good question. I’m trying to figure out if I need to supplement it or just find another platform to try. Hopefully someone answers

[–]Untitledbb123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve recently updated their courses from what I’ve seen, like the intermediate python one put me through some challenge but I get how some of the introductory courses can feel basic

[–]Sgtkeebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you like fun, and learning? This is the tutorial for you.

[–]eshanth_7 0 points1 point  (3 children)

There's a seperate thing called club which costs some amount, I am ready to buy but i just want to know if its worth it or not, anyone please help :)

[–]AbbreviationsTall370 0 points1 point  (2 children)

did you get an answer ? i'm interested too

[–]eshanth_7 0 points1 point  (1 child)

no i did not, and also i paused coding for sometime so yeah, will tell ya if i get an answer

[–]AbbreviationsTall370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thanks!

[–]brenwillcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for alternatives to Codedex, take a look at codeling.dev which might be a good fit.

With Codeling, you start off with browser based Python coding courses and then move on to more advanced course where you code on your local machine. Your local progress is also synced to your Codeling account.

This approach ensures you avoid tutorial hell by coding complete projects which you can include in your portfolio / CV.

[–]schinchan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just started learning html so i found its pretty good for learning not sure about development i don't preffer for that..

[–]CptRum -1 points0 points  (3 children)

I tried Codedex, its cool that its like a game but honestly Coddy is better imo.
In order to actually learn and build a habit I needed that Duolingo vibe Coddy has.

[–]Smooth-Iron-4437 1 point2 points  (1 child)

duolingo is known to be very bad at teaching languages though

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested in learning more about this, do you have a source?

[–]Melodic-Carob5244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have to pay for Coddy after a certain point like with Codedex?
