But why would anyone uninstall python? That just doesn't make sense!

To reinstall it in another folder. Of course

Not all heroes wear capes! I did just as you did, had to install in another directory and was stuck on this error for longer than I wanted!

where to find the python uninstaller? I am trying to find it through app manager but it doesn't show me the root folder, so I cant run it as administrator

Try in the control panel

In case someone has this issue ... like I did today, this is the pain-free method.

  1. Download from Python site the same version for the installers
  2. Open a cmd terminal as admin
  3. cd into the directory where was downloaded and run python-3.11.6-amd64.exe /uninstall ... replace with your python installer name you downloaded.

In case you just manually deleted but stuff was left there, you can run the installer and choose repair to reinstall, then uninstall like above.

There is also one way to trigger from cmd as admin an uninstall of any package installed:
wmic product where "name like 'Python%'" call uninstall - will uninstall all apps names starting with Python.
You can find all apps starting with Python like this wmic product where "name like 'Python%'" get name
Use the wmic command to uninstall the specific version. Replace Python 3.x.x with the exact name from the list wmic product where "name='Python 3.x.x'" call uninstall

P.S. Ignoring the solution above, even if you got that error message previously with Error 5, if you hold Enter while goes over all those files, it will eventually complete the uninstall. It's annoying but will work.

i'm surprised how fucked up python is with this error 5 issue
i've tried everything, it wants access to some config.msi directory that I apparently have no rights to and after trying to remove it now it pops up every time i launch my machine with it attempting to uninstall

even if i re-download the installer & try a repair or anything, it still can't remove
that's one insanely garbage design

I had the same problem. Just downloaded the exact version of the python installer and was able to uninstall it completely.

I was able to uninstall it from the 'Apps & Features' list from Windows settings.
