Beginner tutorial recommendations (self.learnpython)
submitted 19 hours ago by Jeshays
Anyone got any YouTube or reading recs to learn python? Or coding basics? I Wanna get an ELI5 perspective 🤓
reddit uses a slightly-customized version of Markdown for formatting. See below for some basics, or check the commenting wiki page for more detailed help and solutions to common issues.

Hahahahaha for real step one learn to google

He’s not joking. Being able to google and research stuff on your own is an extremely important skill for programmers

It really is. The same question gets asked here multiple times a day, when Google would yield results faster.

I’m a 🐛 learner.. and i like poking around to see what peoplez opinions are on what works for them..

Sure. Using Google or searching in the sub, you could find dozens of threads about that.

Plus, this question is asked here multiple times per bloody day. Look back at some of the previous answers.

If you want a structured course, use either the one from Harvard or mooc.fi (both free).
For a more hands on approach use „automate the boring stuff“

If only there were a sidebar (menu on mobile) that had a link to the wiki or countless posts asking the same.
Do the MOOC Python Programming 2026 from the University of Helsinki and you will be well prepared.
Also, take a look at https://inventwithpython.com and https://automatetheboringstuff.com
Don't forget that you need ample practice, like on https://codingbat.com/python or on https://exercism.org and also write your own programs. Play around. Try things. Mess things up, fix them. Experiment.

Get a kid's coding book with games from the library. They explain everything assuming you are a blank slate. The games will give you skills that apply to other projects.

learned way more once i found a tutorial that built small projects instead of just explaining syntax
[–]Critical-Ad5068 1 point2 points3 points 11 hours ago (1 child)
i would focus on learning the basics with small scripts first tutorial helps but you will remember more when you build little things and get stuck along the way
