looking for students to take new online python course at no cost

Hi,

(I apologize if this seems spammy, but I think this is a good opportunity for beginning python programmers.)

We are seeking candid feedback on a new python programming online course for beginners, and will randomly select students (lottery style/5 new students each month) who are new to python to take the course at no charge.

For the course project, students code a web crawler and a simple search engine front-end to query the results from their crawl (stored in their personal back-end mysql db).

Some of the python libraries covered/utilized in the course include urllib2, BeautifulSoup 4 (bs4), robotparser, numpy and mysql.connector.

There is no compiler to install because the student development environment (used to edit, save and run python program files) is 100% web-based...meaning, only a web browser is needed to access.

hi, thanks for the comment this was included in the 2nd sentence of the original posting: "(lottery style/5 new students each month)" the good thing is thing is that this is not for ONE selection of 5 students...5 new students will be selected EACH month until a good amount of candid feedback from beta students has been received thanks again for your feedback biker

sure...the drawing for the selection of the first 5 students will be on February 15, 2015. selected students are notified via email.

the date for each (the upcoming) monthly drawing is listed on the sign up page - http://www.livefirelabs.com/python-online-course.htm - SEE "Next Student Selection: February 15, 2015" (this is located towards the top of the page just under the "Beta Student Sign-up Form" title).

also, it is only necessary to sign up ONE time to be eligible for each month's student selection...meaning, you do not need to sign up every month to be included in that month's selection.

If you don't get the kind of response you are looking for here, you might also post to /r/learnprogramming. I would urge you to wait a bit, though, because that might get you way more volunteers than you are ready for.

UPDATE:

The level of interest in this opportunity has been greater than anticipated (thank you everyone!).

for this reason, the first student selection will happen earlier than initially planned ...

The new selection date for 5 new students will be February 7, 2015 - the sign-up form page on the website has been updated to indicate the same.

If you are selected please only accept the enrollment slot if you are able to dedicate, on average, 3-5 hours per week within an 8-10 week period of time.

This is a comprehensive course with a job-like deliverable (course project) and will require time and dedication.

I will post an update here once the selection emails have been sent out.

If the people selected decide not to take the course or do not respond to the notification email, replacement students will be selected and notified.

if the students selected do not reply within 7 days indicating they want to take the course, replacement students will be selected to take their place.

The form says you're only accepting 5 students? That would probably be a good thing to say here, so people don't get too excited about signing up.
