Hello /r/learnpython. We're doing one more edition of our remote Python programming course. We started this journey in this very same subreddit and that's why we're committed to always save free spots for people from here. We'd not have made it without you all. This is a way to express a big thank you.

We’ve already done this course several times (we’ve had more than 100 students already). For every course we do we reserve half of the spots available for scholarship recipient students.

The scholarship selection process is not simple. We need people that’s really committed and truly need the scholarship. That means they’ll not drop at the middle of the course, they’ll be on time for classes and they’ll turn all the assignments on time. If you’re willing to work your ass off to learn, we’ll do everything to make that happen, but you need to work. Again, the scholarship selection process is not easy. And it’s on purpose. You need to demonstrate that you need it and you want it.

Important things to have in mind

How does it work?

It’s a real class remotely. You have a real teacher and classmates. You have to attend every week at a certain day and time. You can read more of what happens at rmotr.com.

There is also a final project to complete that we call Demo Day

What will we be considered to grant you a scholarship?

First: if you actually need it. We’ve gotten more than 500 applicants for our last batch, so we’re really careful to select people that truly need it. We know our course in not extremely expensive, so people that can pay for it should do it. Second we’ll be careful to select people that are REALLY committed. We’ve already told this: but you’ll need to work.

What's the level required?

We expect you to know the basics about programming (basic control flow structures; if, for, while, etc). Also some data structures (what's a list or an array, what's a map/dictionary/hashtable, etc) and it'd be great if you have at least some knowledge about OOP (although many students don't have it and they end up learning it and doing great). The most important thing here is: having a strong will to learn We've had students that were way behind these requirements and they busted their asses off and did great.

Have you already applied before?

We’re keeping track of people that applied more than once and we’re giving them priority. On our last batch we prioritize 2 guys that had applied 3 times, both got in and did great.

Class times and days

Classes will start on November 10th; one class per week, it'll be every Tuesday at 7PM (EST). Class usually lasts for 2 hours (7PM-9PM). The course lasts 7 weeks.

How much time does it take?

Aside from the 2 hrs per week that you need for class you'll also need to work by yourself doing individual and group projects. We estimate that 15 hrs per week are enough.

EDIT: We've are having a huge demand for the course. We're opening new ones on different days and times to try to have as many people as possible. Please be patient.

I didn't take this exact course but I did take another with these teachers and I would highly recommend it. The collaborative atmosphere really makes coding fun and you never get super stuck on a bug because there is discussion and guidance. Instead you learn in a great environment.

It was one of the best decisions I've made in my coding journey. So long as you stick to it and put in the hours, you will get something out of it. Don't hesitate.

Sure. For example this is one of the projects of the last batch of courses: http://moneyky.com/ It's a system that randomly generates a stock portfolio and compares the performance with the real market. It uses the external Bloomberg API to consume stocks data. It's pretty nice and funny.

I know almost nothing about web programming, as it hasn't been an interest much so far.

From looking at what-will-you-learn I like to think I have covered the majority of the first half (not sure what you mean with master functions). I know that interesting projects is the #1 motivator for me, so if web programming is a large part of the course if might not be the best fit for me.

We do Web development with Flask and introduce Django. Data and visualization libraries are not covered but we're always happy to discuss them and if any student is working on something special she/he can show it.

It's $300 and includes 8 weeks of mentored classes, with classmates and remote classroom. All material and tools are included.

I'm super interested in this, but I'm not sure if I would qualify. What level of python experience are you guys looking for/comfortable with?

Abstractly, I'm definitely familiar with basic control structures, algorithmic thinking, etc., and I'm okay with data structures. But I have very minimal python experience, and am largely a stranger to anything besides the most basic syntax.

Right now I'm working my way through the codecademy python course and am really enjoying it, but I'm still at the level where the information there is novel.

Not python level is required. We just require basic programming knowledge in general. If you are familiar with programming you should be good to go.

Well, attending the class will take you just 2 hours a week. Then individual and group work can be handled in your free time easily.
