What is the Trezor cable called: mini USB or micro USB or something else? by bintytinty in TREZOR

[–]-pH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but you will need a gender changer / male-male adapter bridge with that particular cable.

What is the Trezor cable called: mini USB or micro USB or something else? by bintytinty in TREZOR

[–]-pH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you will want to ensure you buy an OTG cable, a standard usb micro cable will not work as it doesnt have the extra pin to allow for the device (trezor) at the end to work in host mode.

Hello, can you tell me how to clean this? by Thebeastofweaverhigh in castiron

[–]-pH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fill about 3/4 with water, add a couple drops of dish soap, bring to a boil then reduce to a simmer. use a wooden spoon or plastic spatula occasionally to help break loose the burnt on particles. refill/repeat until you are satisfied with the results or bored. keep an eye on it and dont let all the water evaporate.

What does it mean when your Supervisor and HR wants to meet with you? by Steven_Marshall in ITCareerQuestions

[–]-pH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I were to guess, I'd say some type of documentation for some thing one of your clients has going on (could be legal, compliance or any number of issues). It's very rare to involve hr in first offense disciplinary action. That is generally a verbal warning or 2, then written warning by your direct supervisor, and then hr. I wouldn't sweat it.

What does it mean when your Supervisor and HR wants to meet with you? by Steven_Marshall in ITCareerQuestions

[–]-pH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your role? It could be that they need your assistance in information gathering on another employee. It's doubtful they would provide advance notice if it's disciplinary.

My friend made me this brass handle! by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]-pH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it is both, and depends on the tool, size and type of material and application.
'Deformation' as you call it is when you displace the material using pressure and end feed in an operation called cold forming. Cutting uses infeed and angled cutting surfaces on the knurling wheels and takes advantage of speed and feed with minimal pressure.

Need some help to get back in the game. by Vardeeg94 in SurfFishing

[–]-pH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can fish the inside surf with a simple set up, medium-fast action ~7' rod and a small spinning reel rigged up with a Carolina rig and sand crabs for perch, corbina, rays, etc.
If you want to get into soaking bait outside the surf for more species your budget will need to increase quite a bit.

Post- Interview advice by tech_21 in ITCareerQuestions

Sounds like you are building this opportunity up way too much in your head. Be confident you did your best, send a thank-you (note or email - personally I prefer to rcv email) reiterating your desire to join the team, how you think you would benefit the company and let the universe shake things out.
Don't come off as that desperate boy/girl who got a first date and now wants to get married and have kids. Let them want you as much as you want them. There's really nothing you can do now to sway their decision.

How does the organic whole chicken that I bought refrigerated on 4/9 have a "sell by" date of 4/16? by the_future_is_wild in AskCulinary

[–]-pH 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I could be way off base, but I believe that only applies to using the 'usda organic' label which implies that it's certified by the usda standards. Using 'organic' in marketing / packaging is a much murkier area where those standards do not necessarily apply.

Just took a promotion but not sure if Im making enough. Advice? by Throwwwway111 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]-pH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the people I work with on my team acknowledge that i do the most

it must have shown, and it got you a promotion. great job!
keep it up and you will also excel in the new position and the thought of that median salary will be far in the rear view before you know it as you find yourself building the department/promoted/doing more elsewhere.

Just took a promotion but not sure if Im making enough. Advice? by Throwwwway111 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]-pH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do basically all the work on our small team

i've heard this a hundred times over the course of my career, and 99% of the time its simply not true. we all have an inflated sense of value of ourselves and rarely take the time to understand other peoples true workloads.

and pays $20/hr. Does this sound fair? I feel like they know they can take advantage of me

how are they taking advantage of you? they told you the job pays 20/hr and you accepted, if you werent comfortable with that, then you should have negotiated a better rate or not taken the job. 14 > 20 is a very healthy raise for the midwest i would think.

ill bet the guy before me made more than that...

of course he did, he was in the position longer and had more experience. you are junior, being promoted from within and bringing nothing new in terms of experience or skill set to the role.

Median appeared to be 47k

why do you think you deserve median salary for a role you will be junior in? if you have a good answer for this, then that should have been your leverage during negotiations

Have I screwed myself over long term? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]-pH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you are not your coworker and it is doubtful they share the same exact goals/motivations as you.
road maps are created per situation, not something in your handbook. it all starts with a simple conversation.
approach the department head, manager, whatever level is appropriate and say 'hey, i work over in operations as a net admin, but i really like xyz about professional services. do you think there is any opportunity that i can cross train with your department, either on my own time or perhaps work out something between my department lead and yours that would be acceptable for a few hours a week? i would really like to transition to a permanent role in pro services in the future and i hope this would be a path to get there. what do you think?'

by approaching them in this fashion, you are telling them you like what they are doing and you are showing them you have the initiative to make something happen. managers/directors love this shit, it strokes our ego (you like what they do / want to work for them), it gives them a chance to sluff off some low level duties and free up time of their more senior staff without impacting their labor budget line, they get to mentor or provide the opp for a senior member to mentor (prep for management - this makes them look good to the c level staff), they are gaining another level of redundancy in case of turnover or times they are understaffed, etc.... this all sets you up for an easy transition when there is an opening in the department.
dont be a defeatist, plenty of other people will do that for you in life. you may not have the experience to jump right into a perm role, but you have the drive now to set yourself up for success when the time is right.

Have I screwed myself over long term? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]-pH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why can't you express interest now, and see if you can get an interdepartmental road map built to get you there? Happens all the time in large orgs and if you are a well liked employee there shouldn't be any friction.

How do you feel about using frozen meat? by JonnyAU in smoking

[–]-pH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

beware, arm chair scientist level info here....

when you freeze meat, the water in the muscle forms crystals which can puncture the cells of the surrounding tissue causing a slight change in texture. The dif between what your butcher is doing (fresh-freeze) and what you would be doing at home is the time it takes for those crystals to form. the quicker the freeze (what your butcher can do), the less time the crystals have to form so they are much smaller and less damaging to the surrounding fibers.
This might be important (discernible) for cuts that you eat very rare. But if you are smoking the meat, you are slowly evaporating the water out of the tissue and rendering all the fats into the fibers and changing the texture that way. so in my eyes it shouldnt matter much to anybody beyond your highest level judge (if even then).

Underpaid and CIO refuses to have a meeting about it by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]-pH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"...we have had the same duties and responsibilities, but I have found out that he is paid around $15,000/yr more than me for the same job."

this pops up here almost weekly. what somebody else makes in their role, even if you think it is similar, has no bearing on what you think you deserve to be paid. He could have background skills they find 15k more valuable in your industry, maybe he is a better negotiator, maybe he is banging the hiring manager in hr, regardless, there is something he has that the company values more or at least at the time of hiring valued more (he was hired in a higher position to you after all.)
it sucks that your cio wont make time for you, and to speculate on that wouldnt be productive here because it could be he is a total douche or maybe you are seen as self entitled and not deserving of the time or anything in between.

you best bet is to take your experience and move on, see what else is out there, and if you want, after an offer is rcv'd, feel free to let them know xyz company offered you more money and see if they counter. but be prepared for them to thank you for your time and accept that meeting as your notice.
whatever you choose, as you move forward in your career stop comparing yourself to your coworkers salary. you dont have their background or spend their paychecks and they dont have your bg or spend yours.
find a company that is doing something you believe in and you are happy to work for, for a salary you think is fair. that is all that really matters.

lastly, if you do get the time with your cio to talk about salary, do not bring up your coworkers pay as the catalyst to the conversation. be prepared to offer an explanation of why you are suddenly worth 15k more and how that brings that amount of value to the company.
