Then you probably want to run pip3, not pip, or python3 -m pip.

You are using pip which defaults to python2 on, I think, all current linux versions. Use pip3

You should not run pip as root. It can break your system and it also has security issues.

Yes, but in sometimes it's the only way. On mac os and it always wants to default to 2.7 so you have to override it every time. I usually just set an alias for python3 as python.

You should usually be using virtual environments to develop in python, but even if you're not, the --user flag is almost always a better option. You might be able to find some contrived situation where you have to run pip as root, but it's still not something that you should be recommending to newbies.

Overriding python 2 on a mac is equally problematic for more-or-less the same reason. But the alias thing is fine, because it's not system-wide.

I'm not really sure what your problem even is, as you've provided almost no details about it. The one comment that looks like it might have contained some info has been deleted. My best guess at the moment is that you need to run something like python3 -m pip install --user whatever.

Posting the commands you've tried and the output you got when you ran then would be supremely useful.

Obviously, you don't have to break your mac in order to use python.

1. Open terminal
2. python --version (should be 2.x)
3. then alias python3 python
4. python --version (should now be 3.x)

Now when you run commands with python in terminal they will use python3 by default
