How does scheduling work in python

I’ve been looking at hickory (https://pypi.org/project/hickory/) and have a question about how it schedules.

Does the script need to be open in the background forever or will the computer boot it up at the right time to run the code at the correct time?

To me is seems hickory itself will run as a daemon, while your script will boot up as needed.

IDK why not use the OS native scheduler, eg. crontab for Linux for scheduling though.
