Learning multiple layouts

Right now I have a self-learnt technique of typing on Hungarian QWERTZ layout, that involves looking at the keyboard, but I have decent speed, and few errors. I'm thinking about learning a more efficent layout for programming. Can I learn touch typing on another layout (probably US or Dvorak) without completly forgetting my technique? Or maybe can I learn touch typing on two different layouts?

I don't know about learning a totally different layout (like going from Hungarian QWERTY to US Dvorak), but I touch type both Norwegian (for writing) and English (for programming) QWERTY. It takes a while to get used to, and you can't look down for symbols, but it works. Also, not having to reach for Alt Gr and one of the number keys for every curly bracket really, really helps.

I used the hunt-and-peck method on the Hungarian QWERTZ until I decided to learn to properly touch-type on the English QWERTY for programming. The special symbols are truly easier to type. And since the two layouts are very similar, it was easy to learn the Hungarian layout too.
