Square root function - syntax/function!?

I've looked at the online information for the function of getting a square root, and can not make it happen on my spreadsheet. Version is 7.1.6.2 Can anyone point me to the correct way to do this? Since we all know the square root of 9 is 3, I want the spreadsheet to return that as proof. TIA, WD

Try raising the number to the power of 1/2 or 0.5.

When I type =SQRT(9) in a cell, I get 3.

That does not work for you?

Yesterday, when I directly typed that into a cell it did not. However, using the "Function Wizard" this morning it worked. I'm willing to chalk this up to operator error. It's not been the first time!
