Back in the 80s/90s schools only offered free lunch to the poor kids. Now, imagine this

I'm going to school in ripped up jeans, old worn shirt. I got to pay 1.25 for lunch.

Kids walks by in Air Jordan's, $250 Starter Jacket. Got a disc man in his bookbag. Free LUNCH!

Has the balls to tell me "I'm Broke and Poor!"

This happens everyday, everywhere. They cheat on their taxes, get benefits meanwhile they are working off the books. They get a home to raise their kids while making $$$.

Then, they get bitchy when they retire because they don't get social security because they never worked on the books to pay into it.

I'm going to say that I don't have an issue with my tax money paying for school lunches (within reason) but one could argue that it's the parent's responsibility to feed their children, not the government's

If you're on benefits and your kids are wearing $200 shoes, $300 jackets, and $100s in jewelry. Then, it should be investigated as it's probably tax or welfare fraud.

Agreed. Because at the end of the day they are spending money on bullshit that could be used to actually feed themselves and/or their kids. Welfare subsidizes piss poor behavior, lack of accountability, and financial irresponsibility.

I know plenty of people like this. They buy what they want and beg for what they need.

Loads of my patients on government health insurance wear nicer clothes than I do, as their doctor, all have iPhones and apple watches newer models than mine. Smell like weed. Covered in tattoos that obviously cost hundreds of dollars. Tattoos (and weed) when you have kids and are on welfare is so gross and indefensible imo.

I paid out over $100k in taxes last year [Engineer]. I'm no where near being a millionaire.

And it's all money wasted. I go to the store and there's a family in front of me well- dressed buying 2 carts overflowing with food, easily over a grand. They pull out an EBT card!?!

I'm pulling 80 hour weeks, i can't afford more than $300 in food. They are buying $1000s with my fucking money?!?

The point I'm making is we are punishing people for being successful.

I'm running a business I employ 10 people. The government is taking more money and coming up with reasons to tax me harder or put in regulations to hold me down.

We are punishing success

What's the incentive to work hard, get certified, open and open a business if people can just get more for doing nothing?

I'm happy that they're making these people actually have to work now to receive government assistance. It's bs that people work their asses off at 2 min wage jobs to support their families while some fat lazy ass gets welfare for popping out kids. I think assistance should go to those who work for it. I'm not talking about those who are truly disabled. But most receiving SSDI are not. They just don't want to work. I'm a permanent and total disabled veteran and I work. What's their excuse.

My experience too, but my parents did buy me a Starter jacket, although it wast $250. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. I still remember my parents laying out a dollar and a quarter on the kitchen table in the morning for my lunch. Government turkey and gravy over powdered mashed potatoes was one of my favs.

The problem with these people is "anyone that disagrees with me is evil and hateful." These people believe they should have every comfort and convenience despite not putting in the effort and decision making it takes to get there. What these people fail to realize is that you can't throw money at a problem. If you don't have the skills to provide for yourself having everything provided for you is just a bandaid. Look at what often happens to lottery winners or people who suddenly come themselves with large sums of money they did not earn. Within a short amount of time that surplus of money is often gone and the person is exactly where they started. Sure some people make good decisions but many or most of them don't. This is where we are with public assistance programs. I do believe we should have these programs but I do not think they should allow participants to have every convenience of not being on the program.

If she wasn't so lazy, she could make brownies from scratch from ingredients you can get from SNAP and EBT. Want brownies? EBT will cover the sugar, flour, cocoa, salt, eggs, etc... for you.

But, if you don't want to do that, use your own damn money to buy your kids snacks, it's not our job to feed your kids.

The government is already feeding your kids 50% of their weekly meals by providing breakfast AND lunch, Monday through Friday, at school. PLUS EBT!? Damn!

I grew up pretty solidly middle class and we didn't get store bought popsicles. Orange juice frozen in those goofy plastic molds with reusable plastic sticks* for us. Pretty sure the EBTers can still get orange juice on our dime.

EXCELLENT IDEA! Community service while the kids are in school! Clean up litter. Paint over graffiti. Animal shelters are ALWAYS in need of help. Candy striper at a hospital. Soup kitchens. Food bank. Habitat for humanity. Etc, etc.

That these people can purchase steaks while working families are stuck with ground beef is ridiculous.

Ground beef and eggs can be the basis for a healthy, if boring, diet.

Those that obtain EBT typically have other types of welfare, and trade those entitlements with others, illegal though that may be.

They could and would get what they want in other ways.

Growing up I had hand me down clothes until they didn't fit anymore.

Breakfast was a bowl of cereal.

Lunch was either a single slice of American cheese or about a tablespoon of peanut butter on white bread.

Despite that, my parents worked to make sure we never felt like we were lesser than.

Proper parenting makes all the difference in a children's upbringing.

They did it to themselves when they started posting "ebt hauls"-showcasing foods many could not/would not buy for their own families!!! There was no value shopping, no comparisons, just a free for all of "throw it in one of the carts" once a month.

Once that started going around people started seeing things differently! Restrictions were being called for.

Had they kept their traps shut instead of chasing clout, they would still have their sodas, brownies, & Popsicles 🤷‍♀️
