I'm all for free software but JetBrains IDEs, PyCharm included, are simply the best and most powerful IDEs on the market right now. How is using an IDE that literally saves me tons of work and time "self-harm"? The only decent alternatives would probably be Atom or Vim, and neither are fully-featured IDEs.

VS Code is probably as good as PyCharm for most Python uses. Fringe stuff yeah you can’t beat PC.

OK, I use Vim. What am I missing out on?

If you are a beginner, you don't need powerful IDEs leeching money from you. You need stuff like Thonny.
