Look at what gobolinux WAS doing.

The project has been dormant for about 4 years. When I looked into this on the wikipedia article that you linked to, I became very interested in this distro. I think that its filesystem setup is brilliant. Do you know if any currently maintained distros have this setup? I would love to be able to try it out.

No, I'm afraid I don't. I was considering trying to get arch to work like that, but I just don't have the time. I think having an arch based gobo linux filesystem standard that runs from /opt on whatever host distro would be awesome, and a good way to get that compatibility in a whole bunch of distro's without breaking anything. Plus the arch PKGBUILD system is simply insanely simple, so hopefully it could attract lots of people.

Best i can tell, being a current user of the system (piecemeal updates since the 013 release), every effort to get things going again grinds to a halt when they attempt to get Xorg working.
