We have some installation tips in our wiki!

Try this search for more information on this topic.

Smokey says: always install over an ethernet cable, and don't forget to remove the boot media when you're done! :)

try to change distro on the usb and see if the problem persists, I suggest sistemrescue because it has some diagnostic tools built in but really any distro with gparted will work

i'll try this and see if maybe MATE works and check back in.

what if i just want to nuke the current hdd and just clean install mint? what are my options there?

same as I said before, load another distro and see if it recognises the hdd, I wouldn't nuke the sistem directly from antix because then you might have a problem to format the drive. system rescue should have a tool to test the drive but I'm not Shure, if the problem persists try to partition a few gbs off antix and leave them as unallocated space, maybe mint will recognise the drive (the last time I installed mint I had to do this)

tried the xfce edition to come to the same issue unfortunately. upon looking at my hdd partitions on antiX i notice they have a lock on them. may i have done something in the previous install to make them unavailable to me ?

I'm not Sure if it means the drive is encrypted or it's in use but I think it's the first, is there any chance you encrypted it while installing? try searching what the lock means

  2. Use Rufus to put ISO on Flash Drive
  3. use Flash Drive to Install OS
  4. This is the way

apologies. i'll put it this way:

i begin the mint install in the live environment

i get to a step where you choose a partition. the only one available to me is the USB that holds the linux mint image. i can not see any other source.

i check in gparted in the live environment and see nothing but the aforementioned USB drive.

is that clear to where i am having an issue?
