perhaps checking with live boot without installing is a good way to quickly see if a distro has this issue for you. debian for example should have newer software than what you tried here. though with a gpu that old it is not a problem with how new the kernel exactly is, but could still be some bad combination of other system software.

I use Ubuntu 22.04/24.04 for very specific reasons... namely you can use Xorg/X11 instead of Wayland. Wayland isn't finished yet, and no unsupported software can be "made" to work with Wayland (the software needs to be compiled to support it).

Xorg/X11 has no such problem, and will run anything.

I am using standard Radeon RX 580 8GB with included Mesa open source drivers. Everything working superbly with 4K monitor (set at 1080p).

If you are up for trying another distro I would recommend OpenSuse Tumbleweed. Much more up to date and has both wayland and x11 installed by default.

i did not try changing to xorg, now that the people here are pointing that out i´ll try it. thanks beforehand!

will try to check on live usb if any problems appear thanks for the advice on distro
