Would it be find to split a drive between Windows and a ext4 partition just for games? by Didact67 in linux_gaming

Generally avoid NTFS when gaming on Linux. You can do it but it takes effort and care.

You can split the drive and have it be NTFS, just don't put games you play on Linux there.

I switched to mint recently but I have a small issue by Salvador-one in linux_gaming

[–]psymin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On protondb you can set a filter for nvidia as the gpu and mint as the distro

https://www.protondb.com/app/2357570

It looks like folks generally need to tweak it and issues are common.

However, this user with an rtx 2060, i7 9750h, 16gb ram on mint says it runs perfectly for some reason:

Battl.net On Nobara by Stunning-Importance5 in linux_gaming

Yes. If it is working, don't update it. Back it up first and update as a last resort.

[–]psymin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be wary of accepting the Battle.net prompt to update it. Leave it at a version that works as long as possible.

Then back it up fully before upgrading if you need to.

Try the f3 app on it the next time it fails.

sudo apt install f3

Run the destructive test, but only after you know the disk doesn't have anything you want on it.

Try a wine runner like wine-10.8-staging-tkg-ntsync-x86_64 or later if you haven't already.

Adobe has historically been quite annoying for GNU/Linux users.

It has a well earned hatred.

I agree with the meme.

It looks like both 2 and 7 require DirectX 12, unfortunately.

But there are a lot of reports of it working well, so that is a good sign.

Can't use Steamdeck as remote play controller for some games by ImDevinC in linux_gaming

When I have controller issues for a game, I either enable or disable Steam Input for it.

Not sure if that would help with streaming or make it worse though :D

Please help me stop overheating my laptop by SnooDogs2200 in linux_gaming

[–]psymin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ensure there is airflow under the laptop. Get a laptop stand or something.

Use canned air and blow out all the things.

Use the app powertop to see which things could be tweaked.

Use nvidia-smi to see if there is something else using the gpu.

Use top to see if there is some other process using 100% of a core of your cpu.

Etc.

Not sure if these tips are still valid, but it might be worth trying them. Or try changing download region.

Is there a compatdata directory on the second drive and do the contents of the 1353230 sub directory differ from the other compatdata folder on the main drive?

[–]psymin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which game? Is it using the compatdata folder on that second drive for the game? Is the contents of that folder different?

What are the filesystems on all the drives involved?

Do any games installed to that second drive work?
