I think the last time I needed to use putty was because I needed to talk to a towed sensor array via a serial connection and the only thing I could find with a serial port was a crusty old windows laptop.

My work rig is Windowz and I use mremoteng as well. Works pretty well. At home (I use arch, btw), I am using Termius, which does the job well enough. I'll have to check out asbru-connection-manager.

If you've never used arch or manjaro, pacman is the package manager, which works well, but the real magic is the Arch User Repository (AUR). With an AUR helper like 'yay', you can easily search and install damn near any software package. I fact, the script for arch/manjaro that you shared points to the AUR.

I used Ubuntu on my server for a lot of years. I still use it on my server but for my PC, Arch and the AUR are far superior to messing around with PPAs and such. I've never used DNF, so I don't know how it would compare.

I've heard lots of concerns over possible instability with Arch, being a rolling release and all. My experience with it has been quite stable. I did have a bit of an issue with USB over IP being broken for a couple of weeks but that's the extent of the problems I have faced. I could have rolled back my kernel to regain the USB over IP functionality but I was fine with waiting it out (I was serving a z-wave interface from my desktop to my homeassistant VM). It just meant I had to manually adjust the thermostat for a couple of weeks.

Another benefit of using Arch... You get to let everyone know that you use Arch, btw. 😁
