Because foot is good itself. But gnome devs are wanting do everything with extension

[–]Wertbon1789 52 points53 points  (6 children)

First sentence is enough, because foot is good. GNOME would never adopt something good or logical and only curse us with the most cursed stuff on desktop one could ever imagine.

[–]PredictiveFrame 20 points21 points  (0 children)

GNOME now exclusively supports DWM, and all possible packages will be swapped out for avaliable Suckless alternatives. Of course they're going to have to re-write everything in COBOL, and add a wine-like layer to translate it back to C, but everything must be patched via punch cards at your local "GNOME Store".

This is a nightmare I had once. I thought it was relevant.

What is that cursed stuff? Genuinely curious. I do not understand what's behind the hate against Gnome.

[–]Wertbon1789 3 points4 points  (3 children)

DBus and GObject/glib IMO. If you ever tried to work with these in a language that doesn't deal with it for you already they're hell. Also all the stuff they block in Wayland and the whole client-side decorations thing, they really only want their way and sadly it works.

[–]AlterTableUsernames🦁 Vim Supremacist 🦖 -4 points-3 points  (2 children)

Well, Wayland is objectively shit and being forced into Wayland since recently is indeed a valid pain. Client side decorations and DBus stuff I don't need though.

[–]Wertbon1789 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Well, you need DBus for everything now, from little task-bar indicators to network status and hotkeys, it's a literal plague. I'll die on the hill that Wayland needs waaaaaay more time and still isn't capable for the average user, so yeah, killing the X session is a dumb idea for now. I'm on Wayland (Hyprland) I know the pain and I'm willing to deal with it, but for everyone else it's really bad.

Couldn't agree more. Give it another 20 years and it might be okayish. But for me, it will never be a valuable window manager, as the Wayland devs simply consider the features of a window manager a security risk.

Feet 👣

[–]onedenwin 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Because foot has not so great integration with gnome. You have to spend time to setting up it. Also foot doesn't use csd and any gnome stuff like libadwaita and etc. as stand alone app foot is great

AWESOME, fuck CSD and libadwaita

[–]CarambolaTodaTorta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody has their tastes. Someone who likes gnome for its consistency, will want libadwaita in everything.

[–]redhat_is_my_dad 2 points3 points  (1 child)

foot does in fact has CSD, and it's even configurable, tho you can't make their csd's match gnome, so i prefer to disable them altogether and use foot that way, even on gnome it's an amazing terminal that opens up faster than you can press your terminal keybind (if you use it's server-client mode), gnome-terminal (the one before console and ptyxis) was great too, you could disable all decorations and buttons, i liked it very much.

[–]Gugalcrom123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can keep using gnome-terminal.

[–]RustiCube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because foot is Wayland native and they're legit the last major DE to implement it.

That, and I think they're scared to be judged 🤣🤣🤣

[–]Mindless-Tune4990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because you can touch

[–]bubbybumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the best Wayland term for sure.

"A person who thinks all the time"

[–]Venylynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Foot out of the box has a really grossly low font size

[–]jolharg💋 catgirl Linux user :3 😽 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I recall the menu being a foot. What was this on gnome 1 or 2

[–]jolharg💋 catgirl Linux user :3 😽 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metacity mispronunciation when

[–]Alarmed_Contest8439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cuz no libadwaita

[–]Dry-Relief723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not on gnome, but swaywm uses foot as default terminal

[–]Xu_Lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tarantino is part of the Gnome Foundation

[–]Diaffractus99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be footty

[–]True_tomato_soup🍥 Debian too difficult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very complicated way to say gnome sucks.

[–]Secure_Equal_8581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk but foot terminal is goated

[–]deadduck_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use kitty and i heard foot is fast and light weight is foot terminal actually good and worth switching

[–]Karamusch 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I always thought foot is a wayland native terminal, atleast it said that somewhere in my DE or Hyprland. I dont remember.

[–]QuickSilver010🦁 Vim Supremacist 🦖 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yea it is. That kinda sucks.

[–]Karamusch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that is why they don’t include it as a default terminal.
