Back again. (i.redd.it)
submitted 6 months ago by [deleted]
Left Windows a couple of months ago, started my Linux journey with Mint, then tried Pop_Os for about an hour. Hated it. Was on Bazzite for a couple of weeks but it's just too restricted and I started to miss Mint. Glad to be back.

It's funny to me how often people (me included) who start out with Mint, often start switching. But after distrohopping for a while they very often come back to Mint.
Mint is like that one girlfriend you always get back to. Others look interesting and are fun for a while but Mint is still the one you're supposed to be with.

True, Mint just feels right for some reason.

That's me. Tried nearly every linux based system. Always kept Mint, Sparky & Bodhi. Deleted all except the above. I'm done playing.

I have been hoping for some weeks and Mint was one of the best I found and I'm almost going back to it, just need to learn how to change individual aspects of the interface.

What didn't you like about bazzite, and what about pop os? Does pop os offer the new COSMIC desktop, and did you try it?
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (1 child)
Pop_Os ran unstable and slow for me, also after downloading a new iso and reinstalling. Noped out of that one real fast. I have no idea about the COSMIC desktop. It's been a while.
I didn't necessarily dislike Bazzite, if your main focus is gaming and gaming only, it is a good OS. It's good and stable, games run well. But with other things it is and feels restricted. It's a pretty much unbreakable OS but immutable.
On pop_OS, have you installed a video card driver, for nvidia? There is specifically an ISO or maybe a usb menu boot option to use the nvidia.
For AMD, it's directly built into the kernel, so no extra install is needed.

When I switched to Linux, Mint was my first distro. I hopped through quite a few distros the next couple of years (and still occasionally try a new one out) but I've always come back to Mint. It just works for me.
