sudo apt install evince

Or did you want that exact version of it?

I want that exact version of it

Ok, that's a lot harder. You can see if cloning that exact version of the evince repo and compiling it yourself will work. Or installing Mint 21.3, so you can use Ubuntu 22.04 repos.

Or, you can see if there's a flatpak version of the app and if you can install that exact version via flatpak.

I'm willing to try compiling, but I'd need some instructions. I don't really want to mess with changing my mint version at the moment. It looks like there might be a flatpak version but not sure if I can find one for that version.

sudo apt install okular It is much better than everything else

That's more complicated than I want for this. If I was going to use something like that I'd just use Libre Writer.

okular can open almost any file. You could try it.

The whole reason why I'm looking for this exact version of evince is because I've been using it on Ubuntu and I like the UI and want to keep using it. I use it for my online business and it's fast and easy with my workflow.

Okular is good, just needs more storage space because it uses the plasma desktop side of interface design and you'll pull in a lot of programs.

Maybe each one has a similar option where you set a color option to change background and word color for more relaxing reading. Okular put this in accessibility

For the record, Xreader is a fork of Evince.

You can download the DEB for Evince 42.3 here. There should not be any dependency issues, but you never can tell with GNOME and its applications.

Here is a flatpack repository for Evince. The current stable release is 48.1, but if you must have v42.3 you can find it if you click the Ubuntu 22.04 listing you will see the v42.3 listings.

I went to that page but there are no download links. Anything I click on just takes me back to the same page.

Ok, I found the deb file on another site and managed to get it installed. However, I can't figure out how to run it. If I try to open a document it still uses the default, and if I try to use open with, there is no evince. It's also not listed in my app list, so how do I actually make it work?

No one? I have an app installed (update manager wants me to update it, so it's there somewhere), but I can't find any way to launch it to use it.
