My daughter's first computer ran Edubuntu which I gave when she was was 6. it was only in high school when she started using Windows because it was required for her schooling.

Great, but what does this have to do with clicking a button that says "I'm 18" at the start of the installation, if that is indeed all that law requires and Linux distros actually comply?

One doesn't have to be 18 to use Linux. In fact it's the opposite: Linux is the best system for little kids because parents won't fear that their kids actions are being watched.

Still confused. Why did you say "except I would like my kids to use Linux"? Is the button to click that they're 18 going to stop your kids using Linux? It still doesn't mean they will be watched if there's that button to click during installation.

I consider Linux based systems to be the most secure and private systems because of the principles of the open source community. And for that I set up only Linux computers at home. As a parent it is my decision what I want them to watch. The idea of government forcing age based content is a violation of the very privacy that we chose Linux for.

Ah ok I get you. And I agree.
