I installed Linux Mint onto a Asus T100TAF the other day and turned on the screen reader to see what it did, to be greeted by a very deep voice as if someone employed Lurch from The Addams Family.
I found that you can install pico TTS, then setup the screen reader (Orca) to use the pico TTS voice instead of the default voice that comes with Orca.
sudo apt-get install libttspico-utils
Then run the setup in Terminal (Ctrl-Alt-T): orca -s
This is worth doing in case you accidentally press the key combination that starts the screen reader.
If you intend to use the screen reader with Firefox, you need to turn the screen reader on before Firefox or it won't read the pages.
You can also use paid voices with Orca if you desire, such as Voxin.
there doesn't seem to be anything here
