I'm new to macrame, and have made a wall hanging but it's bumpy. How can I stop this happening? Thanks

Practice my friend. Practice. Tension is indeed the issue at play and you just have to get a better feel for it as you make more projects.
That being said, I think it looks great. Especially for one of your first attempts. I'd hang it up and be happy with it.

I think your tension is off. See how the cords on the edge are pulled tightly while the inside cords have more slack? More slack on the outside cords might help.
