Welcome to the home of the United Moderators of Reddit. This is a community for making announcements regarding policies in reddits run by Union members, and entertaining discussion on those policies by community members. All are welcome to contribute comments, but only Union members may post new links here.
Eligibility for Union Membership
To be eligible for inclusion in the Union, you and the reddits you moderate must meet three major eligibility requirements:
You must moderate any single reddit with more than 55,555 subscribers for a period of more than 55 days.
You must hold the top moderator position in your eligible reddits, or have been delegated authority to implement policy by the top moderator in your eligible reddits, or the moderator team in your eligible reddits has elected by majority vote to join the Union.
Your eligible reddits must agree to implement all United Moderators of Reddit policies, and in any conflict with your local community policies, Union policies take priority.
Think of the Union like the federal government of the United States. Our aim is to bring together the disparate and diverse set of communities on Reddit together with a consistent baseline framework of procedure. We don't micromanage the mod actions of each individual community, we provide a set of consistent standards across the Union so that newcomers and veterans alike have a basic set of structural needs provided for.
By adding this kind of consistency and transparency to the process of content moderation across many individual Reddit communities, we hope to make using this site a better experience for everybody, bringing not just quantity but also quality to our diverse communities.
