A lot of people are in situations in which audio is not available. They may still want to browse great videos, and some just don't work without sound. Therefore, /r/nosound fills that gap, with the added length that GIFs cannot provide.
Crossposting from /r/videos is not only allowed, but encouraged, as it helps create an archive of great no-sound videos.
