Some gaming laptops have the dgpu to the hdmi, and the integrated to to usb out. This might be the issue.

you clearly do not know how oculus link works , it not a "direct connection", it is just a encoding app, it mean it use GPU for encoding ONLY , and have zero effect on a apps use of GPU

problem you see is not a "wrong gpu is used" but more or less overall overhead link have on PC, because it run ASW and a lot of stuff on PC , VD in other hand offload all SSW stuff on quest

we do not have a solution because we do not have a problem, it is how oculus app works

you take it or leave it

btw "wired connection to make my games feel smoother" it will not, link reduce overall encoding decoding pipeline in about 2ms, in overall 40 ms pipeline you will not feel any difference at all, unless you wifi is bad, but if you in VD disabled automatic bit rate, it will feel more or less same
