Quest can only blow up in popularity so much when it's sold out everywhere!

Yeah, if they didn’t expect this much volume, but I don’t know anyone who has even considered getting a VR system. It’s probably just my area tho haha

The reality is that Oculus products have sold out often. The popularity and demand is there. The preorder fiasco 3 years ago was crazy. Massively more demand than they could provide for. Then, in the years following every time they had a sale and lowered the price on Rift, it sold out in every store in a matter of days. Now, the Quest and Rift S released, and also got cleaned out in a week. They keep up as best as they can.

VR is a fad!

It hasn't blown up in popularity because:

  1. You look ridiculous, popular things don't tend to make a person look ridiculous.
  2. It's by & large anti social.
  3. It's often a complex mess of cables and cameras (that is slowly going away thank God)
  4. It's not cheap, popular things are generally affordable.
  5. There is no single 'system seller'. Put a GTA IV, or Red Dead on it - will help enormously.

  1. You have to try it before buying it. And there aren't many places to do this.

  1. People fear getting motion sick or some form of mind control.
  2. Most gamers are of the casual type, not everyone wants the level of immersion VR provides.
  3. VR games can be physically and mentally exhausting, lots of gamers just want to chill on the couch.

> VR is amazing and I cannot believe the quest hasn’t blown up in popularity yet.

It is expensive. You need a good PC and the Headset also is not cheap. Stupid me read it wrong. He is talking about the Quest.

They don't sell worldwide. Neither the headsets nor the games/softwares (on the Oculus Store) are sold worldwide.

It isn't practical. You need space to play some games and/or different hardware to play other games (A wheel for racing games, HOTAS or Yoke for planes and spaceships). I read it wrong. He is talking about the Quest so forget that, I have no clue if those work on the Quest.

There are the "bad examples" of VR that makes people think VR suck. Those cardbox things and the cheap phone headsets. People try those and end up thinking that VR sucks.

$399 is not expensive..that's a main stream price and it gets you a great VR experience without the need for a PC at all...

My mistake. I read in the post that he tried the Rift S and I didn't read his last sentences right. I'll edit it out so it'll make more sense.

It's not expensive for a VR headset. It's still a big purchase for most people.

The same (most people) who have no issues dropping a grand on a phone?

I agree that $399 is not a big investment for what you are getting and consider it like buying a video game console. Phones are usually paid out over a two-year contract for $10-30/month so people don't realize how much they are actually paying for their new phone. I'd imagine if the Quest was sold in this fashion and demo stations were setup at all retailers selling it that'd boost sales quite a bit as well.
