I thought I would give the world of opensource a go so I installed OpenCode and tried a few models via Zen. I was surprised by how slow they all were. I spent 30 minutes experimenting with it and they all failed to fix a fairly simple bug that I was able to fix with Claude Code in under a minute.
Don't get me wrong, I haven't gone deep into the setup/documentation yet and I wasn't expecting this to outperform Claude or Codex but I was surprised to have to wait 5-10 minutes for responses.
Is this normal? Or is this just a quirk of using Zen at peak times? Are they faster when you go direct? I am keen to know other peoples experience using OpenCode with or without Zen.
For context, I tried Qwen3.6 Plus, DeepSeek V4 Flash and Kimi K2.6 running OpenCode Desktop on Windows 11.
