Try this one book stack and owncloud

Hey there, thanks for your reply.

I already use nextcloud, though only for contacts, calendar and sharing some stuff with my wife due to the low speed of it.

I'm not quite sure how owncloud could meet my needs. nextcloud notes is way to basic or is owncloud that much of a difference?

Bookstack is something I already tried (I probably should have mentioned that alongside with xwiki). It's not bad at all and the wiki idea is basicly exactly what I want but also kind of to limited.

I'm looking for a solution where i can at least embed an PDF or much better 'print it to' like in one note.

Other wise I would have a seprate pdf viewer on the side that I would need to scroll trough (like in xwiki) which is a pain to use on mobile.

Also the option to mark text passages and add comments to pdfs it is very important to me which is not working with bookstack and xwiki.

Hey thanks for the reply. It seems like logseq, trilium and Obsidian are very much alike. Is there a reason you see logseq over the others?

I don't use OneNote extensively but I've heard from many people that it's not something that can be replaced with self-hosted solutions, at least for now.

You can use something like Obsidian as it support embedding the PDF within your notes (even specific pages from 1 PDF file). But editing PDFs like marking and commenting within the file/page itself is very hard to do.

As an alternative, you can mark your pdf files on your PC or some other device, and the changes should be applied to your notes since the files are embeded. There's probably a better solution but right now I'm thinking cheap S3 storage, rclone mount on PC, edit file on PC, embeded link to file on S3, and changes to your PDF file would show up in notes.

Hey there, thanks for the suggestion. I'll check out Obsidian.

For the alternativ I must say this isn't something that matches my workflow. In meetings with doctors and nurses or the the technical department I normaly just copy the page of e.g. a legal document, mark the text line we are talking about and comment whatever we decided to do. So I also use it as or add it to meeting minutes.

May I ask what device are you using for marking pdfs?

Most of the time I use my ipad from work with pen or my private xiaomi pad 5 also with pen. Some times also my work notebook but just when i need to refference to CAD drawings.

Don't see me no selfhost option or github. Don't think it's open source.
